Footfall sees a slight boost

Milder weather brings out shoppers everywhere, finds Springboard

Footfall in retail destinations across the UK saw a boost last week with an overall annual increase on +2.2 per cent, Springboard finds. The mild Spring weather is likely to have contributed to a weekly increase of +1.4 per cent, reinforcing the positive result for UK retail.

The positivity was evident across all location types with Shopping Centres experiencing the first flourish of growth for the year with an annual rise of +1.0 per cent. Shopping centre footfall rose in all but three regions with just a slight dip in North and Yorkshire, Scotland and West Midlands. Retail Parks also saw improvements, with an increase of +2.0 per cent against last year and a dip of just -0.1 per cent against the previous week.

High Streets saw the greatest increase, experiencing a rise of +2.9 per cent against last year complimented by a weekly rise of +3.3 per cent. High Street performance across the UK was less volatile than that of the other location types with regional performance ranging between +5.1 per cent in the South East and -2.3 per cent in the South West.
