New trading level planned for converted car park space
Documents lodged with the London Legacy Development Corporation reveal plans for 150,000 sq ft of additional retail space at Westfield Stratford City. The extension will be housed in a new basement trading level to be created by taking out two levels of the centre’s underground car park.
If the plans are approved Level 10 of the car park will be removed, creating a two-storey void that will house the new retail which will be accessed from the existing mall by two new banks of escalators. The lost parking spaces will be replaced with additional car parking on Level 4.
Speaking to the Newham Recorder Westfield head of development John Burton said: “Following five years of successful trading where Westfield Stratford City has broken industry records delivering £1.1bn in retail sales and over 46m customers annually, we have submitted an outline planning application to commence the process to engage with the authorities on the potential for an expanded retail and leisure offering.
“The planning application is in response to strong demand from international and UK retailers wanting space at Westfield Stratford City.”
