Hammerson signs M&S Simply Food in Middlesbrough

Marks & Spencer has signed up to Hammerson’s Cleveland Retail Park in Middlesbrough, taking a 12,000 sq ft unit for a Simply Food store.

The store, which is the first standalone M&S Simply Food in Cleveland, replaces the former MFI unit and is expected to open this autumn. The retailer is the first name to have been secured following the relaxing of the planning conditions for the retail park in December 2011.

Hammerson purchased Cleveland Retail Park in 2002 and undertook a redevelopment of the scheme in 2009, creating a new retail terrace to bring high street retailers to the scheme which included Next, Boots and Outfit.

Andrew Berger-North Hammerson portfolio director for Retail Parks said: “Consumers are increasingly adding additional trips to retail parks as part of their regular shopping patterns. Ensuring we have the right mix of fashion, food and homeware is vital in increasing visits, dwell time and retailer spend.”
