Restoration works underway at Burlington Arcade

Meyer Bergman has announced that restoration works at Burlington Arcade will commence today following final receipt of Planning and Listed Building Consent from the City of Westminster.
In the first phase of the works, installation of new lighting and the repainting of upper arches will open up a view of the full length of the arcade not seen for over 100 years. The 12-14 week programme, which will take place out of hours, is expected to be complete by the end of April.
Markus Meijer, chief executive of Meyer Bergman, Burlington Arcade's co-owner, said: “Having received final approval of our plans for the first phase of the restoration of Burlington Arcade, we can now start the physical process of removing the current lights, which hide its exemplar Regency architecture, and reviving its original colour scheme. We expect these works to be complete in time for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and I am particularly excited that, once complete, we will have a view not seen for over 100 years and possibly not since Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1897.”
