Midsummer Place raises £7,000 for charity

The popular Advantage Africa gift wrapping service in Midsummer Place Shopping Centre raised £7,100 in the three week run up to Christmas.
From 9-24 December, shoppers paid to have their Christmas presents wrapped by volunteers in order to raise vital funds for people affected by poverty, disability and AIDS in Africa.
Over 80 volunteers gave their time to the cause which raised enough to support 30 people living with AIDS with nutrition, medicines and emotional support.
The service received sponsorship from Midsummer Place, HSBC and Krispy Kreme, who provided volunteers with a well-earned hot drink and a doughnut after their shifts.
Centre Manager, Martin Hindson said: “We are delighted that we have once again raised a staggering amount for such a worthy cause and we would like to thank our customers for donating so generously, as well as to the volunteers who gave up their time to make this possible.”
Advantage Africa’s director Andrew Betts added: “To reach over £7,000 is an astonishing achievement. It’s enough to support 30 people living with AIDS with the nutrition, medicines and emotional support they need to ‘live positively’ with health and hope in their lives over the next year. We’re so grateful to everyone involved, including the Midsummer Place management and staff, project manager Charlotte Cashman, our sponsors, our customers, many of whom made extra donations and our amazing volunteers.”
