C&R submits planning application for Leisure World

Published:  16 December, 2011

Capital & Regional has submitted a planning application to refurbish Leisure World, its 170,000 sq ft complex at Jarman Fields, Hemel Hempstead.

On receipt of planning consent, development work would be programmed to commence in summer 2012, with completion envisaged for spring 2013. The project will see the leisure and entertainment complex extensively refurbished, reconfigured and rebranded. It will remain open during the refurbishment process and it is estimated that construction costs for the project will be approximately £4m.

A range of new family-orientated restaurants incorporating external terraced seating areas will form part of a modernised frontage for the scheme. These will sit alongside a new gym, children’s play facility, ice rink, 10 pin-bowling alley and multi-screen cinema.

David James, responsible for National Developments at Capital & Regional, said: “Jarman Fields is a terrific location for both retail and leisure occupiers. Tesco has recently extended its store by 17,200 sq ft and the council has successfully established a centre of excellence for extreme sports on the site.

“Leisure World is showing its age and the offer needs upgrading to satisfy the evident family orientated demand. Our proposals are planned to address both of these issues and we’re encouraged by the positive response of the local authority and the occupier market.”
