Westfield Stratford City won the top award at the annual BCSC Golds

Westfield Stratford City was hailed as the best new large scheme at the BCSC’s annual Gold Awards dinner, held at London’s Grosvenor House hotel. And Land Securities’ One New Change won the prize for the best smaller scheme.

Both were the only entrants in their categories, reflecting the subdued state of the development industry. But in other categories the judging panel was forced to make a choice.

Value Retail’s Bicester Village outlet mall won the award for best established centre while Golden Square in Warrrington won the sustainability award and Marks & Spencer was retailer of the year.
The best refurbishment award went to the Mall Blackburn and the best shopfit award went to River Island for its new flagship store at Westfield Stratford City.

The dinner also saw outgoing BCSC president Richard Akers hand over the chain of office to his successor, BDP’s Peter Drummond. And it was also announced that Tom Meager, Primark’s property director, has been appointed junior vice president, meaning that he will become BCSC president in 2014.
