Café Rouge adds to Parkway mix

Two weeks after the successful opening of Parkway, Cafe Rouge is the latest brand to open
The new shopping centre in Newbury town centre attracted almost 100,000 shoppers in its first four days trading and owner Standard Life Investments is already adding to the high-quality tenant mix at the 475,000 sq ft retail and residential scheme.
The latest signing is French-style brasserie Café Rouge which is to take a 3,267-sq ft unit arranged over two floors at the scheme’s Park Way entrance, opposite the John Lewis at home store (which opens in Spring 2012).
Café Rouge will be extending Parkway’s catering offer – which currently also includes Costa and the Debenhams’ new concept café Estro - providing the people of Newbury with a quality dining experience which will extend dwell time and support evening trade.
Ed Jenkins, head of UK retail at Standard Life Investments, said: “We had a fantastic opening, almost 80 per cent let, excellent footfall and tenants trading well above their targets. Café Rouge will be a great addition to the line-up at Parkway and supports the occupier mix that we want to achieve for Newbury. Parkway has already added to the attraction of the town as was demonstrated by increased sales being reported by some stores in Northbrook Street since our opening and the addition of more operators over the coming months will help to secure its future as a true retail destination.”
Development managers for Parkway are Shearer Property Group. Retail letting agents are Strutt & Parker and Jones Lang LaSalle.
