New name for Bluewater’s The Events Venue
Published: 01 November, 2011
Lend Lease today announced that The Events Venue at Bluewater is to be re-named Glow, Bluewater. The news follows the announcement that the £60m development is to open with its first show on November 30 this year.
Glow consists of 56,000 sq ft of flexible events space containing two halls and a 4,800 sq ft private gallery area. In addition, a new covered piazza, called The Plaza, has been created to integrate Glow with Bluewater’s Thames Walk. The 32,000 sq ft Plaza, which opens on November 10, contains 12 entertainment-themed restaurants, cafes and bars occupying a total of 43,000 sq ft. New brands include Jamie’s Italian, Wahaca, Balans, Brown’s and Wagamama.
The choice of name follows an extensive research-led process by brand agency Identity. From the outset, Lend Lease was determined to select a name that was brand- and experience-led, complementary to Bluewater, and which created differentiation in the events and exhibition industry.
Rebecca Cardozo, venue director for Glow, Bluewater, said: “We are all very excited about Glow. The name is absolutely perfect for an amazing place that will play host to such a wide range of inspiring events. Glow is emotive, evocative and attention grabbing and, in guest-research, was very well received. It also sits comfortably with Bluewater, which is renowned for its unique day-out experience. With the opening of Glow, Bluewater, on November 30, the experience gets even better.”
Richard Coppell, head of retail development at Lend Lease, added: “Bluewater has remained one of the industry’s frames of reference ever since it opened due to its ability to evolve and to innovate. Glow is a prime example of both. It represents not just a new genre of venue for the events industry, but a completely fresh perspective on retail asset enhancement. Its development by Lend Lease challenges conventional thinking to create what we are confident will become a new model for the industry.”
