Union Square, Aberdeen’s largest shopping centre has welcomed over 25m shoppers since opening in 2009.
Over the last 12 months, Union Square has continued to reposition the retail in the city welcoming a further seven new retail and leisure brands and a further two new restaurants, bringing the centre to 95 per cent let by income.
Last week, Union Square recorded its third busiest ever week in terms of footfall, which is up almost 15 per cent on the same period last year, coinciding with the launch of the UK’s first buy and collect House of Fraser.com store.
Since opening, the centre has provided the people of the city and shire with over 1,450 job opportunities across its retail, leisure and hotel offering, with over 200 jobs created in 2011 alone, across the nine newly opened retailers.
Lawrence Hutchings, Hammerson managing director UK Retail said: “We have maintained strong footfall and sales since opening which demonstrates the pent-up demand for the brands we brought to Aberdeen. We knew the area was affluent with a relatively low level of unemployment, so we have continued to attract aspirational brands such as Hugo Boss and this is paying off as consumers like the retail mix and are spending.”
