Dundrum reopens after great mop-up

Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin is poised to reopen on Wednesday after flash flooding closed the centre on Monday

The million-sq ft centre was closed on Monday 24 October after the Dundrum Slang, a tributary of the River Dodder, burst its banks. The sheer weight of water, caused by Dublin's heaviest rainfall in living memory, burst through flood defences and flooded the centre's lower levels, with the Marks & Spencer and Next stores particularly badly hit.

Centre management and store staff spent the Tuesday mopping up and on Tuesday night the centre was able to announce it would open on Wednesday. In a statement, management said: "Dundrum Town Centre will re-open its doors to the public at 10am on Wednesday October 26th, after round the clock cleaning crews have worked to restore the centre towards the standards customers have become accustomed to.

“Some stores may open later in the day, and a limited amount of stores including Marks & Spencer and Next will not open until later in the week. All car park entrances will be open as normal."
