Debenhams signs to anchor Barnsley scheme

Published:  18 October, 2011

Wilson Bowden and Ashcroft have signed Debenhams as the first anchor store for the Marketplace Barnsley scheme due for completion in 2015

Debenhams will be taking 75,000sq ft on a new 25-year lease. The retail unit will trade on two floors and include a restaurant it will offer the full range of Debenhams merchandise.

The deal brings to an end Barnsley's record of being the largest town in the UK without a department store. The addition of Debenhams is a key part of the redevelopment scheme that will also include a seven-screen cinema, 35 retail and leisure units as well as new car parking. There will also be a new Market Hall to house the indoor market, which already enjoys significant local loyalty and attracts many thousands of shoppers from surrounding regions each year.

Ashcroft and Wilson Bowden have recently appointed property consultants GCW to work alongside Jones Lang LaSalle as joint letting agents on the Marketplace Barnsley.
