St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff, owned in a joint partnership by Capital Shopping Centres and Land Securities, welcomed 15,000 students for its lock-in shopping night last week.

Students were treated to promotions, prize giveaways, food sampling, DJ’s  and one-night only discounts, encouraging double the amount students of the launch event last October.

More than 80 stores reopened for the Student Lock-in with some reporting double their usual day’s sales within just two and a half hours. Those taking part included Debenhams, Pulp, Reiss, New Look and Cult.

Joanne Skilton, retail and leasing director of CSC, on behalf of St David’s Partnership, the joint venture between CSC and Land Securities, said: “To have achieved more than double the number of visitors we attracted last year is phenomenal but shows just how important such events are to the retail experience and how well St David’s sits at the heart of Cardiff. Many of these students will have been new to Cardiff and we are thrilled to have been able to introduce them to the great shopping experience that we can offer them whilst also allowing them to bag some bargains too.”
