Harvey Centre to get £1m refurbishment

Published:  04 October, 2011

The Harvey Centre in Harlow is to undergo a major refurbishment project for the first time in 15 years, following its acquisition as part of the Sapphire Retail Fund by Addington Capital, AEW Europe and Tristan Capital.

The project is the first step in a programme by new the owners to re-establish the Harvey Centre’s position at the heart of shopping in Harlow, after years of a lack of investment in the scheme.

The £1m refurbishment will include the relocation of one of the escalators, designed to improve footfall circulation, and a large-scale replacement of finishes including lighting as well as improvements to customer toilets and baby changing facilities.

The announcement comes after several tenants - Primark, Wilkinson, Tesco, Argos, Poundland and Blue Inc – modernised and increased the size of their units.

Addington Capital’s Alex Wagstaff said: “We believe that the refurbishment will attract new retailers to Harlow and encourage even more existing retailers to invest in their shop fits. This continued confidence in the Harvey Centre from retailers is very encouraging and we aim to provide an excellent shopping facility that will benefit everyone.”
