Highcross celebrates its third birthday

Highcross in Leicester is celebrating its third birthday with a series of events.

This morning general manager JoTallack, City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby and city centre director Sarah Harrison were among those invited to take a helicopter flight over the city to take in some of the city’s key developments – including Highcross, the Curve theatre and the 02 Academy.

Since the introduction of Highcross, more than 70 new retail brands have arrived in the city centre including John Lewis, broadening the city’s appeal and bringing in more visitors from outside of Leicester.

But it is the 15 new restaurants and Cinema De Lux that have made the greatest impact according to general manager, Jo Tallack. “Leicester now has a thriving evening economy – shops are open until 8pm, and the restaurants and cinema are buzzing with crowds even on a weeknight,” she said. “Highcross is a family-friendly leisure destination for everybody to enjoy in the evening, which includes great brands such as Wagamama, Handmade Burger Co. and The Almanack.”

Highcross will be holding a series of celebratory events from September 1, including a free children’s party on the weekend of the September 3. Children’s favourite Angelina Ballerina will be making an appearance and there will be soft play area and free face painting.
