Musical ‘Gleeds’ to be staged at The Light

The Light shopping centre in Leeds is set to host an open-air musical, ‘Gleeds’, this August Bank Holiday to help raise money for the DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal.
For two nights only (August 27th- 28th), ‘Gleeds’ is to be performed at the centre’s St. Anne’s Gardens. The show has been exclusively written for The Light by English Rice productions and the story tells a modern version of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a night of singing, dancing and comedy under a summer night’s sky. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children, with 50 per cent of ticket sales being donated to the DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal.
The Light will also be raffling off a signed Yorkshire County Cricket Club cricket bat over the weekend to help with the appeal.
The Light’s marketing manager, Stephanie James said: “We wanted to host a spectacular end of summer event that would really wow visitors. We also wanted to remind people of the famine that has afflicted thousands of people in Africa, following the worst droughts in over 60 years. We hope that ‘Gleeds’ will help to raise money for such a desperate and heartfelt cause.”
The cast includes Paul Sock, James Mountain, Jenifer Burman, Lucy Rafton and local star James McGuire, who played Billie in the hit TV drama The Royal Today.
