What do shoppers say?

Published:  18 August, 2011

In June 2011 ROI Team polled more than 100 shoppers in The Square, Birmingham about their attitudes towards anti-social behaviour in shopping centres.

Findings indicate that almost three quarters of shoppers think that shopping centres should be allowed to ban young people for anti-social behaviour.

Somewhat surprisingly, the wealthiest shoppers have the highest level of tolerance towards antisocial behaviour (though 58 per cent still support the idea of banning). However the ‘comfortably off’ middle income group are committed supporters, with 4 out of 5 of this group voicing agreement.

And, contrary to much public perception, the youngest shoppers are the most critical of antisocial behaviour. More than 4 out of 5 want to ban perpetrators from shopping centres, against just two thirds of shoppers aged over 55.
