Designs for a new £200m town centre near Talbot Green in south Wales have been unveiled at a public exhibition

The plans include for a culture and entertainment quarter, with a new cinema and supermarket, as well as cafés restaurants, bars and hotels. There will also be office space for local businesses, a range of civic and community facilities, residential apartments and town houses. As part of the proposal, the existing Leekes store will relocate to a purpose-designed building on another part of the site.

Following the end of the consultation period, developers Valad and Scarborough Development Group will submit an outline planning application to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council this summer.

Peter Mathias, Chairman at architects Holder Mathias, said: “This is the biggest thing to happen in the Rhondda Cynon Taf area for quite some time. The project would become a vibrant heart for the surrounding community, complementing the existing facilities in the adjacent villages. It has the advantage of being easily accessible, can be well connected with the nearby communities and readily developed on sound sustainable principles.
