The Rock celebrates its first year

The Rock in Bury celebrates its first birthday in July and will be delivering a unique high-wire catwalk show to mark the occasion – the first of its kind in the UK.
To celebrate, The Rock – which has welcomed 10 million visitors since opening - will host four fashion shows and live music from popular Manchester band Kid British on Saturday 16th July. At the event, which has a floral theme, retailers will showcase their summer ranges with each catwalk show accompanied by a high-wire couture fashion performance above the main stage.
The floral theme is a nod to the town’s links with Bury in Bloom; a national initiative to make UK towns more presentable and attractive to visitors. The Rock, in association with Bury in Bloom and the Groundwork Trust, is revamping its own gardens in time for the anniversary.
Nikki Kitchen, who won Marketing Manager of the Year at this year’s SCEPTRE Awards, said: “The Rock has the local community at the heart of everything it does and the floral theme for the event symbolises the synchronicity between The Rock and the town; celebrating the old and new all flourishing together.
“We are proud to be pushing the boundaries by putting on a show with elements that have never been seen before in the UK. The high-wire fashion show will be a great spectacle and we can’t wait to see the show in its entirety on the 16th July.”
The Rock has also commissioned a ‘Living Dress’, which will be planted within the scheme where it will continue to grow as an art installation.
