Fashion talent at Midsummer Place

Last week, Milton Keynes’ Midsummer Place drew in a crowd of over 600 people for The Young Fashion Designer of the Year Awards 2011.
Fifty-eight students from various local schools and colleges made it to the final, where they were tasked with producing themed outfits under the brief ‘Alexander McQueen, distorting the body or Origami’.
Having previously submitted their work for assessment, the judges, Alex Gardner, senior features writer at Style magazine, Lindsey Cuthbertson, store manager at Debenhams and Midsummer Place manager, Martin Hindson, where keen to see the designs in the flesh and took in the creations at a specially-organised catwalk show.
After much deliberation, winners from each of the three age categories were announced along with the two overall winners, Gemma Bowker and Lizzy Dyson, whose work the judges thought good enough for a professional catwalk.
Centre manager, Martin Hindson, said: “This is a great opportunity to display and celebrate the young talent of Milton Keynes and we are already getting excited about the event for next year, we are pleased that Midsummer Place can support this type of occasion.”
