University outfitter, Jack Wills has opened its first store in the West Midlands at phase one of the Caxtongate retail scheme in Birmingham city centre.
The British fashion retailer has taken just under 4,000 sq ft of retail space at Unit 1 Caxtongate, located on the corner of New Street and Cannon Street in a deal secured by joint agents DTZ and CBRE on behalf of Irish investor Cosgrave Group.
The new store is Jack Wills’ 43rd branch in the UK.
Comprising 16 retail units and office accommodation in a Grade II-listed property block, Caxtongate has attracted niche high street retailers including Urban Outfitters, MAC, Toni & Guy and Accessorize. It is situated on Birmingham’s prime pedestrianised retail pitch, near to New Street station, where John Lewis recently submitted detailed plans for its new 250,000 sq ft department store.
Adam Lazenbury, associate director at DTZ, said: “Caxtongate’s success is due to its ability to attract a varied and enviable mix of occupiers whilst offering something different to the existing shopping centre retail experience in Birmingham. Jack Wills’ arrival complements the existing offer at the scheme.”
Jonathan Webb, managing agent and surveyor in DTZ’s retail active management team, added: “We have worked closely with our client at Caxtongate to maximise investment value ensuring the scheme’s tenant mix continues to benefit existing occupiers, helping it to remain an important and distinctive city centre retail destination.”
Savills acted on behalf of Jack Wills.
