Charity abseil at The Fort

Published:  08 June, 2011

The Fort shopping park in Birmingham has vowed to raise £10,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and has already raised more than half the money in just three months.

Centre manager, Marjan Horne kick started the fundraising with an adrenalin fuelled abseil of 131 feet from the Mailbox roof, raising more than £1,000.

The centre also hosted a Drive-in Movie with all profits from ticket sales and food and drink purchases - £4,000 - going straight to the hospital.

Horne said: “It is great to be able to support such a fantastic charity at The Fort. I feel it is important for retailers to get involved in the community they are in and I’m confident that with the help of The Fort’s stores and our shoppers we will easily be able to beat the £10,000 target.”

This summer, The Fort will bring the beach to Birmingham by creating a large sandy island, deck chairs, rides and more. All profit from the event will also be donated to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where the money raised will go towards providing additional facilities, equipment and research for the hospital’s patients.
