King Sturge launches shopping centre training scheme

King Sturge has awarded certificates to the first three shopping centre staff to successfully complete a duty manager training course launched by the firm this year.
The training scheme was trialled at Legal & General’s Arndale shopping centre in Eastbourne and will now be rolled out to the other 29 UK centres that King Sturge manages. It is believed to be the first formal duty manager training to be provided across a number of different client-owned schemes.
Janette Calverley (centre administrator), Gordon Thow (security manger) and Aaron Willott (deputy security manager) have earned their certificates by completing an extensive duty manager training syllabus. This involves staff members being fully conversant with such areas of the shopping centre as IT systems, security and emergency procedures, mechanical and electrical systems, customer relations, best practice, contract management and complaints procedures. Completion of these tasks is overseen by the centre and property management.
The duty manager training is complemented by attendance of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health four-day course on managing safety.
John Partington of King Sturge’s shopping centre management team says the new training scheme will be particularly aimed at new staff joining a centre, enabling them to become quickly familiar with all aspects of running it when the need arises.
