The Mall Wood Green celebrates 30 years

Published:  18 May, 2011

Thirty years ago, Queen Elizabeth II opened what was then a new concept in town centre development; The Mall Wood Green was one of the first mixed use developments combining retail, commercial, car parking and residential into a town centre site.

The Mall management team is re-installing the plaque unveiled by the Queen to a new location on the upper mall near the management suite and has a selection of photographs of the opening day on display, with the full album available to view in the management office.

General manager Michael Thompson, said: “Thirty years on the Mall is still trading successfully - it has expanded incorporating a building next door, the stretch which now houses Next to JD Sports. Substantial investment has reconfigured the malls to incorporate a 12-screen cinema with associated eating establishments and a health and fitness club was opened with more commercial space provided. Primark opened a large new anchor store in November 2009 and three of the anchor stores have undergone major refits, showing the commitment of both the national retailers and The Mall to providing a developing service to the residents of the London Borough of Haringey."
