Land Securities to extend Meteor Centre in Derby

Published:  03 May, 2011

Derby City Council approves Land Securities' plans for a new 100,000-sq ft food store.

The approved plans are for a new supermarket, petrol station, carwash and the reconfiguration of existing units.

The Meteor Centre currently provides 182,000 sq ft with 14 retail units and a fast food restaurant. Retailers in the centre include Focus, Carpetright, DFS, D&M Furniture, Topps Tiles, Staples and Pets at Home.

Land Securities’ portfolio manager for Meteor, Jack Busby, said: “This is great news for the residents of Derby, the future of the park and the local economy. In this challenging economic climate this is very positive as it will not only help create hundreds of full time and part time jobs but it will also bring forward investment in a property that is in need of reinvigoration.

“This will allow us to provide a much better shopping environment with facilities that meet modern retail requirements. So we’re pleased to take plans forward following a robust submission. We’re already in talks with various retailers to take the space.”
