Walk-in chocolate waterfall at Whiteleys

Published:  26 April, 2011

Food architects Bompas & Parr have transformed a vacant unit in Whiteleys shopping centre, Bayswater, into a giant chocolate waterfall to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film.

Visitors donned protective suits before walking through a thick chocolate-smelling cloud, crossing a bridge over five tones of liquid chocolate past the waterfall and into a processing plant where they could bottle their very own chocolate elixir, adding a choice of botanicals, to take home.

The installation, open to the public over the Easter bank holiday weekend, was the second partnership between Bompas & Parr – who have consulted celebrity chef, Heston Blumenthal – and Whiteleys. Last year the duo created the Artisanal Chewing Gum Factory, where shoppers could learn how to make chewing gum by hand.

The Chocolate Waterfall was open from 12-6pm with tickets priced at £5.
