Royal community project at Broadwalk

The 199,000 sq ft Bride Hall owned Broadwalk Centre in Edgware is paying tribute to the royal family by inviting local schools to produce a giant collage that will be unveiled at The Broadwalk Centre on Friday 29 April by a King Henry VIII look-a-like.

The local community event involved an artist visiting six schools and helping each child to create a picture of a King or Queen of England using recycled materials. Each individual picture will be incorporated onto a large banner charting the history of the British monarchy.

The centre’s management team, together with artist Charmain French, chose 11 year old Anushan Rathimohan from Stag Lane Primary School as the winner with his picture of Queen Elizabeth II. The winning school with the best overall collection of artwork was Cannon Lane Middle School, who received a cheque for £100.

Each child who has contributed to the creation will receive a special ‘VIP’ invitation to the unveiling of the artwork and a day of street party themed entertainment on Friday.

Broadwalk marketing manager, Dina Mistry, said: “As a community shopping centre we wanted our royal revelry to involve the local community, and what better way to do that than by allowing local school children to create a truly unique piece of celebratory artwork that will be displayed in the shopping centre.”
