Standard Life Investments has announced the appointment of Neil Carter as centre manager at Parkway – the new 475,000 sq ft shopping and residential scheme in the heart of Newbury town centre – as it prepares for opening in October.
Neil brings over 17 years of retail experience to the role, following four years as general manager at County Mall shopping centre in Crawley. Prior to this, Neil held a number of retail management positions at Debenhams and Marks & Spencer. During his time at County Mall in Crawley, Neil also served as a board member of Crawley Town Centre Partnership and was an active member of the Local Economy Action Group.
At Parkway, Neil will be the primary point of contact for the scheme’s retailers, shoppers and the local community. He will be responsible for all aspects of centre operations and performance, managing the on-site team as well as a number of service providers, including cleaning and security.
Commenting on his new role, Carter said, “This is a fantastic opportunity and I am very proud to have been appointed to work on such an exciting new development. It will be a privilege to be involved in one of only three centres opening this year. I am eagerly anticipating the challenge ahead and working closely with the Newbury community.”
Parkway will be anchored by Debenhams and M&S, and include retailers H&M, New Look, Topshop, Jones Bootmaker, Lakeland – and most recently Fat Face, Paperchase, Costa and John Lewis at home.
Parkway is being developed by Standard Life Investments. It will comprise 295,000 sq ft of shops, a 550 space car park and 147 new apartments.
