John Lewis signs in Newbury

John Lewis is set to open an ‘at home’ store at Parkway, Newbury – the 475,000-sq ft mixed-use scheme being developed by Standard Life Investments

The retailer will open a two-storey, 40,000-sq ft store shop in the Parkway development, which will open in October 2011. Parkway already boasts anchor tenants Debenhams and M&S, as well as H&M, New Look, Topshop, Jones Bootmaker, Lakeland and Barclays.

Ed Jenkins, head of UK retail at Standard Life Investments, said: “The letting highlights the quality of the development we are delivering and the strength of the town’s catchment. This is a great vote of confidence for Parkway.”

Parkway is one of only three new shopping centres scheduled to open in the UK in 2011 and will deliver 295,000 sq ft of shops and restaurants, a 550-space shopper car park, and 147 new apartments.

Development managers for Parkway are Shearer Property Group. Letting agents are Strutt & Parker and Jones Lang LaSalle. John Lewis was represented by Cushman & Wakefield and Ashworths.
