The £240m expansion plan for Nottingham’s Victoria Centre will add 500,000 sq ft of new retail space.
Under the proposals the site of the centre's multi-storey car park will be redeveloped with a new department store and around 50 new shops. In addition there will be a new bus station, and a ten-screen cinema plus a renage of new restaurants. Car parking would be replaced by a new underground car-park beneath the centre.
Richard Bowler, Victoria Centre manager, said: “The Victoria Centre has been part of the fabric of Nottingham for 40 years and attracts over 23 million customer visits every year. We are committed to the city and are proud to launch a plan that will create thousands of jobs and make the trip even better for the millions who love to come to Nottingham.
And James Cons, principal architect at Leslie Jones Architects, said: “We are proposing to swap a multi-storey car park with a significant gateway building to the north of the city centre, create a brand new bus station, and introduce a covered arcade that offers and new link into the city centre for the local community.”
