Beaumont bounces to help young carers

Published:  08 March, 2011

Shoppers and staff at Beaumont shopping centre used space hoppers to bounce over Big Ben 60 times to raise over a £1000 for young carers in Leicestershire.

The team of Beaumont bouncers - staff, shop workers and children - bounced tens of thousands of times, added up to more than 60 times the 97 metre height of Big Ben.

The centre’s Beaumont Big Ben Bounce raised money for young carers in Leicester who are helped by Barnardo’s CareFree. The CareFree service works with around 270 Leicestershire children and their families each year, giving them practical and emotional support, as well as the opportunity to enjoy social and leisure activities.

Individual sponsors have donated £560 so far with money still coming in. British Land, the centre’s owner, has agreed to match the money raised pound for pound up to £750.

Alfie Chapman aged 10, from Market Harborough said: “It was really fun to bounce on space hoppers, I managed to bounce a thousand times on my own”.

Sarah Duffin, centre manager, said: “What a brilliant day. I want to thank everyone who jumped on a space hopper and helped us raise so much money for Barnardo’s”.
