A detailed planning application for the first phase of a new town centre for Longbridge has been submitted to Birmingham City Council

The £70m mixed-use regeneration scheme has been designed by Holder Mathias Architects on behalf of St. Modwen and Advantage West Midlands, and will establish a new heart for the local community. The development is part of a £1billion regeneration project that aims to create a range of employment opportunities by generating over 600 new jobs.

The new Longbridge town centre will include 24 new shops and restaurants, a food-store, a hotel, commercial offices and 40 apartments, together with two acres of public open space through the newly created Austin Park. The £66m Bournville College, which is situated within the proposed town centre, is already under construction, and will welcome its first students in September 2011.

Bill Oliver, chief executive of St. Modwen, said; “The submission of a planning application for the new town centre at Longbridge is a major milestone in the evolution of this project. It underlines our expertise in taking on large scale regeneration projects and provides a clear indication that 2011 will be one of the most active years yet for this important scheme.”
