Privacy glass helps to keep RMUs secure

Privacy glass, which can be turned from clear to opaque with the touch of a button, can act as a useful security measure for RMUs and stores wanting to divert attention away during closing hours, yet wishing to maintain an inviting environment during the day.
For short-term retail lets, privacy glass affords a greater degree of flexibility, providing stores with the ability to change their projected display very simply and as regularly as they wish.
Scott Sinden, managing director of ESG, said: “Early adopters of the glass have used it to significantly enhance store fronts and areas such as changing rooms where privacy is a must. As commercialisation continues to gather pace, we expect to see further market penetration meeting design specifications for RMUs, short-term retail lets and advertising display screens.”
Glass processors ESG’s Polyvision panels involve a PDLC film being encapsulated between 2 or more glass sheets. Using a minute electrical current, staff can immediately switch the glass from clear to private – opaque - and vice versa. When the electrical supply is switched on, liquid crystal molecules align allowing incidental light to pass through, making the glass clear.
