Apprentices build wall in Beaumont

Published:  22 February, 2011

Shoppers got busy with bricks at Beaumont shopping centre when they tried their hands at construction skills, helped by apprentices from the National Construction Academy in Leicester.

The apprentices and Academy staff were at Beaumont to mark Apprenticeship Week, and to encourage potential future skilled workers to consider apprenticeships as the start to a new career.

The apprentices and Academy team encouraged onlookers to roll up their sleeves and join in with the demonstrations on stencilling and bricklaying.

Beaumont shopping centre manager Sarah Duffin got busy with a trowel and enjoyed helping to build a wall in the mall, with advice from apprentice Will Piggin. Sarah said: “It has been very interesting talking to Will and finding out about apprenticeships.”
