Touchwood is reporting its 16th consecutive month of sales growth on a like-for-like basis, with sales in January up 6.6 per cent.
The centre has continually outperformed the British Retail Consortium’s sales growth for the UK, with UK retail sales up 2.3 per cent like-for-like.
The centre, which celebrates its 10th birthday in September, enjoyed its most successful trading year to date, with overall sales up by 8% during 2010.
Throughout 2010, the shopping centre tracked consistent sales growth on the previous year, with an increase of 6.7 per cent in Q1, 4.9 per cent in Q2, 11.3 per cent in Q3 and 8.6 per cent in Q4.
Paul Birkett, general manager at Touchwood, said: “Touchwood enjoyed a fantastic year both in terms of sales and visitor numbers. In particular, our jewellery offering experienced double digit growth against last year, whilst our dining economy was up by almost 10 per cent and our toy retailers outperformed 2009 by over 20 per cent.
“Christmas also proved a very successful period, despite the bad weather, with footfall up by 3.9 per cent and sales up by 7 per cent during December. In fact, the first day of the sales saw our visitor numbers increase by 50 per cent.”
The centre have welcomed eight new retailers including Kuoni, Superdry, ASK, Giraffe, Pret A Manger, Dwell, Office and Neal’s Yard.
