BCSC launches retail delivery guide
Published: 15 February, 2011
The BCSC has published its Guide to Retail Delivery - intended for use by landlords, tenants, agents and centre management teams – which seeks to make a tenant’s move into a shopping centre as smooth as possible.
The guide covers all aspects of the retail delivery process - identifying the responsibilities of the parties involved, and suggesting clear systems for approvals and co-operation in order to ensure that any new store is delivered efficiently and on time.
As well as looking at design considerations and constraints the guide also highlights practical concerns, including meeting health and safety and sustainability standards.
Derek Baillie, director of project management for feasibility projects at Land Securities, who has led the project on behalf of BCSC’s Technical Affairs Committee, said: “BCSC's objective in commissioning the Guide to Retail Delivery is to provide a best practice approach to achieve an effective transition from leasing negotiations to trading.
“With so many stakeholders involved in this complex process it is hoped that the document will give clear guidance on who needs to be involved and at what stage, emphasising the point that working in a spirit of co-operation can help mitigate the considerable potential for cost escalation, delays, and confrontational situations arising between the various parties.”
