Go-ahead for Battersea redevelopment
Published: 09 February, 2011
The redevelopment of Battersea Power Station has been given the go-ahead by the Department of Communities and Local Government
Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, has decided not to intervene with the planning proposal set out for Battersea Power Station. In a letter set out by the department, Mr Pickles has "concluded that the application should be decided by Wandsworth Council along with the three related listed building consent applications."
The scheme has already been approved by Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Wandsworth Council. Real Estate Opportunities - which is managed by Treasury Holdings - launched its new vision and masterplan for Battersea Power Station in June 2008. The development, which will be the largest ever in central London, will serve as a catalyst for the regeneration of the Nine Elms Opportunity Area.
The scheme will also include a new underground station on the proposed extension of the Northern Line from Kennington to Nine Elms and Battersea.
Treasury Holdings MD Rob Tincknell said: "We are delighted to have received final approval for the scheme and would like to thank the local community, Wandsworth Council, the Mayor of London, and the Secretary of State for their support and valuable engagement throughout the process.
"Following productive talks with a number of potential investors, we now look forward to bringing an investment partner on board and commencing with the development of the site and the regeneration of the power station."
