Yate Shopping Centre revamp
Published: 03 February, 2011
The existing Tesco store at Yate Shopping Centre in South Gloucestershire is due to be demolished and replaced by a 110,000 sq ft Tesco Extra, in one of the most significant changes to the centre in its 40 year history.
The new foodstore, built over two floors and including a car park, will stock homewares, electricals and clothing as well as groceries and is set to open by Christmas.
The redevelopment will also see the shopping centre’s owners Dominion Corporate Trustees build four new large modern units to meet the requirements of today’s high street retailers.
Centre manager Andrew Lowrey said: “Yate Shopping Centre has been at the hub of the town for the last 40 years. It has had many refreshes over the years but no changes of this scale. The new Tesco Extra store and large retail units will complement and enhance the centre’s retail offer meeting the future demands of the surrounding population and provide a modern and exciting shopping experience.”
The scheme is managed by DTZ which also acts as joint letting agent alongside Savills.
Yate Shopping Centre attracts an average footfall of13 million customers per year and has over 100 retailers including New Look, Peacocks, Superdrug, Dorothy Perkins, Iceland and Argos.
