Entrepreneurship competition launched at The Mall
Published: 18 January, 2011
Capital & Regional and Aviva Investors have launched an entrepreneurship competition this week at each of The Mall Fund’s community shopping centres.
The competition allows new businesses to trial a new retail concept on an RMU for a fortnight with the best at each centre rewarded with a prize worth £10,000 including rent free trade at The Mall.
“The Retail Factor” will run across the Fund’s eleven community shopping malls and is being supported by The National Skills Academy for Retail.
The aim is to give new businesses a helping hand and provide them with a high footfall trading location from which to build a customer base.
A shortlist of the applicants with the strongest potential will be drawn up and a panel of key regional businesspeople will select an overall winner at each centre.
The eleven winners will each receive a start-up package worth £10,000 that includes two months of rent-free trade at The Mall, free business mentoring from The National Skills Academy for Retail, a Sony laptop and the chance to win a place at the exclusive week-long retail business course, BHF-BSSA Oxford Summer School.
Izzie Peskett, national marketing manager at Capital & Regional said: “This competition has been designed to give those with a great idea the chance to turn it into a business. By running it across all eleven of The Mall Fund’s community shopping centres we hope to give a dozen budding businesspeople the chance to create a new future for themselves by helping them take that all important first step on the retail ladder. We are proud to be promoting entrepreneurship through this great competition and look forward to seeing what applications come through.”
