Stanhope submits Hereford application

Stanhope has submitted plans for 310,000 sq ft of retail and leisure at The Old Livestock Market in Hereford
The development, which will consist of a six-screen digital ODEON cinema; a 21,000-sq ft food store; a department store; a range of complementary retailers and a number of restaurants and bistros; has been designed by architects Allies & Morrison and Leslie Jones.
Alistair Shaw of Stanhope said: “Submitting our planning application has been the fruition of over three years hard work in Hereford. Interest in the scheme, even prior to submission, has been extraordinary. People recognise that Hereford is a region that has for too long been overlooked and offers great growth potential for businesses.
"It is clear there is significant capacity for growth in Hereford’s retail and leisure sectors, the quantum and quality of space required by prospective tenants is not currently available. This is something that the Old Livestock Market development will rectify; ensuring that the demands of Hereford’s enthusiastic catchment can be met within the city. The scheme itself has been painstakingly designed to integrate into Hereford’s historic city centre, serving as a supplement to, not substitute for, Hereford’s existing retail and leisure hub.”
Following the submission, Herefordshire Council will carry out a statutory consultation. Stanhope expects a planning decision in spring 2011 and would hope to be on site later in the year with a view to completion in spring 2013. Savills advised Stanhope on planning.
