British Land’s big hearted donation

Published:  09 December, 2010

During September and October 2010, more than 30 British Land properties raised a record £188,310 for the British Heart Foundation’s biggest stock appeal - ‘The Big Donation’.

Visitors to British Land’s retail parks and shopping centres were asked to donate their good quality unwanted items such as clothing, toys, bric-a-brac, accessories and CDs in order to help replenish the charity’s local shops with enough stock to meet ever growing demand.

British Land’s involvement was coordinated by Liam Smith, regional centre manager at Fort Kinnaird Shopping Park, Edinburgh. Smith first got involved with ‘The Big Donation’ campaign in 2009 and felt so passionately about this charity that all the British Land portfolios came on board for 2010.

Liam Smith commented: “I was really impressed by the way the 2009 campaign was managed by the BHF.  I was also amazed by the generosity of staff and shoppers at Fort Kinnaird, who contributed about £6,000 worth of donations.

He added: “For 2010, we decided to raise a really significant sum of money and the only way to do it was to get more British Land assets involved.  So we approached the other property teams, and the rest is history.”
