The Mall Luton extension opens

Published:  22 November, 2010

The Mall Luton has officially opened its £20m St George's Square development. The extension provides over 75,000 sq ft of new shopping space - let to TK Maxx and Argos - and 17,000 sq ft of catering units facing on to St George's Square, 86 per cent of which is now under offer or in solicitors' hands.

The St George’s Square project marks the first phase of a £150m regeneration, submitted to Luton Borough Council in December 2007, which included plans to improve and extend the retail scheme by around 400,000 sq ft.

In addition to the retail space, the redevelopment includes 10,760 sq ft of office space, 124 flats, modern parking facilities, 24-hour access through The Mall to George Street and St George’s Square and significant new areas of public realm, including a new public square.

Gareth Holland, retail asset manager for Capital & Regional said: "The development at The Mall Luton has been very well received both within the local community and by the retail industry. The provision of large, modern retail space has allowed us to attract new names and has served as a significant step forward for the town centre, further developing Luton's reputation as the keystone in the regional retail market."
