The Light is the latest mall to embrace fish foot spa craze

Published:  19 October, 2010

Appy Feet, which offers a treatment whereby fish are used to remove dead skin from the feet, has opened its 5th store at The Light in Leeds.

During the treatment the Garra Rufa or ‘Doctor Fish’ suck and nibble away dry patches leaving customers with healthy, rejuvenated skin. The fish can also stimulate acupuncture points, helping to regulate the nervous system, relax the body and release fatigue.

Founder of Appy Feet, Christina Wright experienced the phenomenon while on holiday in the Far East and felt compelled to bring the sensation to the UK. “Having toured the Far East and experienced the fish foot spa in Okinawe, Japan, I decided I needed to get involved and made it my mission to bring the concept to England,” she said. “My idea was to make the fish spa experience available, approachable and affordable to all.

“The benefits of the treatment have been scientifically proven, and we want to put an end to people having to travel to feel the benefits of this organic therapy. The treatment is not only for psoriasis sufferers and can have an impact on anybody who suffers with dry skin on both their feet and hands.”

Other outlets include Meadowhall, the Trafford Centre, Westfield Derby and York Coppergate with 15 more UK stores in the pipeline.

Appy feet offer a 15 minute session for £10 or a 35 minute session for £20.
