Hammerson wins consent for Silverburn extension

Glasgow City Council has approved an 80,000-sq ft extension at Silverburn

Hammerson has been granted planning consent for an additional 83,184 sq ft of retail at its Silverburn shopping centre, south of Glasgow shopping centre. In addition the developer will create new leisure space and upgrade the promenade leading to Pollok’s Civic Realm.

Silverburn is currently Scotland’s largest purpose-built shopping centre with over 100 stores and restaurants. The centre is on target to attract 14.5 million shoppers this year, an increase of 5 per cent on 2009.

Phillipa Zieba, assistant director retail development at Hammerson. said: “Silverburn is a strong performing shopping destination with huge potential to attract shoppers from Glasgow and the rest of Scotland. Now that planning approval has been granted, we can progress meaningful conversations with potential retail and leisure operators.”
