DIY and household goods retailer, Wilkinson, has unveiled plans to grow its estate by 40 per cent over the next three years with a requirement for 140 new stores

Wilkinson generated a turnover of £1.4bn in the last financial year with an operating profit of £31.6m. It now wants to expand the current holding of 359 stores to 500 by 2014

For the first time the retailer has instructed agents to assist with the planned major store expansion programme. Smith Price, along with Colliers, will focus on opportunities within the M25 region, and satellite towns, on the high street, shopping centres and in out-of-town locations. The retailer has a minimum floorplate requirement of 14,000 sq ft of which 10,000 sq ft  should be net retail space.

John Mortimer, head of retail agency at Smith Price, said: “It is the first time in its 80 year history that Wilkinson has fully retained agents and we are delighted to have been retained to assist with their expansion programme.”
