Beales to anchor Exchange Centre in Rochdale

Department store operator JE Beale will open its 13th store this month at the former Westgate department store in The Exchange Shopping Centre, Rochdale

The 52,000-sq ft store, part of which is listed, has been sublet by The Co-operative Group on a 25-year sub lease, after Beales purchasing the former tenant Westgate's assets from its current owners, the Anglia Co-operative.

Geoff Player, Director of Property at The Co-operative Group said: “Attracting Beale’s confirms an underlying confidence in Rochdale and demonstrates that despite the challenging economic climate it still remains possible to conclude deals that are commercial for all parties.”

The new store will be accessed off The Exchange Shopping Centre’s main trading mall with a second entrance to Lord Square. In addition, the store has a direct access from the shopping centre’s rooftop car park. Nearby occupiers include Boots, WH Sanderson Weatherall was letting agent
