Pharmacy giant Boots is to triple the size of its Gyle shopping center branch in Edinburgh in a £10m expansion.
The new flagship store will increase in size from 13,500 sq ft to 33,200 sq ft in a three phase extension, making it the biggest single floor Boots in the city.
The first phase will include a new opticians, pharmacy and expanded photo processing department with the second phase adding a new baby section, and Boots' largest Christmas shop in Edinburgh, which is expected to open in late September.
The third and final phase of the refurbishment will be officially opened in October and will include a new beauty hall.
Brian Gaffney, managing agent for Gyle shopping centre, said: “Most people go to the Gyle by car so it means that people tend to buy things rather than window shop - the Boots store at the Gyle is already the best performing branch in the area.
“The new store will offer the whole gambit of Boots services, selling their full range - it will be a chance for Boots to show what they can do with a flagship store. There has been talk of Boots offering GP and dental surgeries within their stores. If they choose to go ahead with this, it can now be incorporated at Gyle.”
Other retailers at Gyle shopping centre, which has 65 stores, include Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Next and New Look.
