Refurbishment on the cards for Bon Accord

The Bon Accord shopping centre in Aberdeen is to undergo a multi-million pound refurbishment.
The shopping centre which is owned by the Scottish Retail Property Limited Partnership (SRPLP), a Land Securities and British Land joint venture, will benefit from a £6m refurbishment programme due to start early next year.
The facelift, which will begin in January and is expected to be completed in autumn 2011, will include new-look entrances, an enhanced interior with new furniture, improved lighting and redesigned floors, walls and ceilings.
Speaking on behalf of the SRPLP, Katherine Armstead said: "Last year we invested in an extensive refurbishment of the Bon Accord centre's central atrium to create a fashion hub, and this has paid dividends, attracting a wave of fantastic new high street retailers and providing customers with a superb fashion offering. This latest £6m investment shows our continued commitment to Aberdeen and to providing a shopping experience which is second to none."
Gary Johnson, director of Gareth Hoskins Architects, which will be overseeing the design process, added: “This is a complex and challenging project which will see the creation of a modern and contemporary environment which will give Bon Accord a completely new look. We have put a lot of work into creating the right atmosphere and can’t wait to see the new design concept coming to fruition.”
Some of the most recent names to join the Bon Accord centre in the last 12 months include Swarovski, Jo Malone and Hobbs.
Last year SRPLP invested £2m in the refurbishment of the neighbouring St Nicholas shopping centre, breathing new life into the popular retail destination, which has since enticed a string of retailers including H&M, Lipsy and Sainsbury’s.
