Henderson is on track with its RPI agenda, meeting two-year targets in just one year, according to its latest report.
The report showed that between 2008 and 2009 there was a reduction of 7 per cent in landlord-controlled CO2 emissions, a 6.9 per cent reduction in water consumption and a 15 per cent reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfill sites.
The targets were met with the help of recycling and consumption procedures such as a scheme at Buchanan Galleries shopping centre in Glasgow to separate wet and dry waste, and the shortening of air handling unit and lighting operation hours at St James shopping centre.
Andy Schofield, head of RPI at Henderson, said: “We have re-assessed our RPI priorities for the next twelve months and these are reflected in our 2010 targets. We are particularly pleased to announce that we are raising our two-year targets for energy and waste performance, given the substantial progress made in 2009.”
Jason Boyce, portfolio manager, Henderson Shopping Centre Fund, said: “Our shopping centres are already doing a great job supporting Henderson’s RPI initiatives, and our RPI targets provide a framework for each Centre Manager to focus on the core sustainability areas which we at Henderson Property think are important.”
The report also outlined Henderson’s 2009 community engagement initiatives, including the involvement of Brewery shopping park in the Romford Business Crime Reduction Partnership and the support of Whitefriars shopping centre in Canterbury in producing a new children’s book.
