Langney shopping centre extension gets the green light

Published:  11 August, 2010

The multi-million pound redevelopment plans for Langney shopping centre will go ahead after Eastbourne Borough Council granted planning permission to the developers Stockland Ventures.

The application, which is the third in six years, includes a two-storey building containing retail and leisure space, one large retail unit and six small units, 30 apartments and a new library.

The council decided that the extension would enhance the area despite receiving 38 letters of complaint from locals and criticism from MP Stephen Lloyd.

Stockland has said it is in negotiations with the homeware chain Wilkinson and hopes to attract other major retailers.
